I would like for you to listen to the album ‘Blue Lester’ by the fantastic jazz great Lester Young (‘The Pres’, a nickname given to him by his dear friend Billie Holiday because she considered him to be as important as a president).
This wonderful album includes some jazz standards. I would really encourage you to pay close attention to the improvisations, to Young’s unique sound on tenor (his timbre was very characteristic) and especially to his use of articulations.
